Shiv Sena has demanded a ban on Burqa in public places after calling it a potential national security threat, Times of India has reported.
In an article published in Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana, it was written that, “This restriction has been recommended as an emergency measure to ensure the security forces do not encounter difficulties in identifying anybody. People wearing face-masks or burqas could pose a threat to national security”.
In the aftermath of the dastardly Easter Sunday bomb blasts in Colombo, Sri Lanka has banned face coverings including Burqa that can hinder the identification of any individual under emergency regulations.
Incidentally, this demand by Shiv Sena has been opposed by its NDA ally BJP which has said that such a ban is not needed. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi too opposed this demand and called it a violation of model code of conduct.
BJP candidate from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya though agreed with Shiv Sena and said that such decision should be taken keeping in mind the national interest.
