Confirming the claims made by Shoaib Akhtar about the discrimination faced by the spinner within the Pakistan cricket team because of his Hindu faith, Danish Kaneria said that it is very brave of Akhtar to take such a stand, reports India Today.
"He (Shoaib) told the truth. I will reveal the names of players who didn't like to talk to me as I was a Hindu. I did not have the courage to speak on it (earlier), but now I will," Kaneria was reported saying.
Earlier, in a startling revelation, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said Danish Kaneria was treated differently in the team because he was a Hindu during their playing days.
Akhtar revealed that he had major fights with other members of the Pakistani cricket team over them sowing regional and religious level discord in the group.
He added that team-members used to be angered over Kaneria taking food from the same serving bowls as them and was never credited for helping Pakistan win the test series against England.
Akhtar claimed that despite Kaneria being instrumental in Pakistani victories he was never accorded due laurels purportedly for being a Hindu.
The report also adds that after ECB banned Kaneria for spot-fixing, the Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) never accorded him the same support as it did to its Muslim players to help and win the appeals. These incidents have also led Kaneria to acknowledge that he has faced discrimination over his religion.
