‘Smoke-Free’ Maharashtra: Fadnavis Launches Scheme To Provide LPG Connections To Those Not Covered by Ujjwala Yojana

BySwarajya Staff

In a bid to cover all those left out of the Union government's ambitious Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the Maharashtra government's cabinet led by Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis approved a new scheme to provide subsidy on LPG connections on the lines of PMUY, reports Times of India.

The state government will be releasing Rs 3,846 per such connection meant for poor families who have been left out of the PMUY's reach. This would help the government create a 'smoke-free' Maharashtra.

Of about 41 lakh households of the state who are devoid of a gas connection at present, most will be covered under the PMUY in the ongoing year, while the remaining will be covered by the newly approved scheme, which has an outlay of Rs 100 crore.

Also, the LPG connection will be provided in the name of a woman in the family as they are the most affected. Also, the scheme will first be implemented in 14 districts which have been most affected by farmer suicides.
