Sonbhadra Massacre: Trouble Rooted In Congress Misrule, Main Accused Belongs To SP, Says CM Adityanath During Visit

Uttar Pradesh (UP) CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a monetary relief of Rs 18.5 lakh for the relatives of those killed in the Sonbhadra massacre which claimed the lives of nine tribals and injured several others from the Umbha village. Those injured will also receive Rs 2.5 lakh relief from the state.

As reported by Hindustan, Adityanath said that a three-tier committee had been formed to examine land deeds and other documents related to the case and has been directed to prepare a report within 10 days.

The nine persons, including three women, were gunned down by a village head and his accomplices in Murtiya village under the Ghorawal police station in Sonbhadra district on 17 July.

Adityanath also pointed out to the political nexus which enabled the criminals during the visit. He said that the land grab began in 1989 when the Congress was in power and it was then that the deeds were transferred from a trust to the persons with political power in the state.

Adityanath said that the village head, Yagya Dutta, and the main accused in the crime was a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader. Dutta brother, on the other hand was a Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) leader. The CM assured that the justice will be ensured in the case and that Dutta and his accomplices will be prosecuted under the National Security Act.

The CM’s retort came as a response to Congress leader Priyanka Vadra’s claim that her party’s activism led to the issue being highlighted. He also announced a special revenue department committee under the revenue department head will be formed to resolve land disputes in the region since 1952.
