No Shoddy Job Anymore: Now Tamil Nadu’s Temples Will Be Restored In A Systematic And Scientific Manner

BySwarajya Staff

Fed-up with shoddy work in the name of temple restoration and to ensure conformity with original scientific traditions, The Hindu Religious Charitable Endowments Department of the Tamil Nadu government has decided to document all temples under its control and empanel experts who will advise it on restoration methods in sync with the agamas, The Hindu has reported.

TK Ramachandran, principal secretary, HR&CE, told The Hindu that the exercise would entail audio-visual and digital documentation of all temples, especially heritage ones. The documentation would cover all aspects such as architectural features, sculptures icons, murals, and other temples aspects. Rituals and festivals would also be part of the process.

“Temples are not just religious and social hubs, but also epicentres for economic and educational activity. Renovation has to take place in consonance with culture, not just convenience,” he added.

“We will empanel experts as well as volunteers, including retired government officials, and organisations with appropriate expertise, experience and requisite qualifications to help aid this process,” he said.

Applications have been invited from concerned professionals for empanelment in this regard. For further details, log on to www.tnhrce.gov.in Resumes may be sent to commr.hrce@tn.gov.in by October 15.
