Striking Deathblow To Northeast Insurgency: Assam’s Last Bodo Militant Group Surrenders 

In a major victory against insurgency in the Northeast. Assam’s last Bodo militant group left its hideout in Myanmar and surrendered to Indian authorities, Times of India has reported.

The National Democratic Front of Boroland (S) which was a close ally of terrorist organisation ULFA, surrendered on Saturday (11 January). The militants were said to have been heavily armed and a large cache of their weapons have now been seized and brought to Guwahati.

The surrender happened in two phases, one was led by the group’s chairman B Saoraigwra and another by its general secretary B R Ferrenga, who crossed over into India from another direction. In total 51 militants have surrendered to Indian authorities.

A joint effort by Indian and Myanmar authorities along with the chief administrator of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) have been credited with ensuring the surrender.
