Home furnishings giant IKEA on Friday (4 June) announced its entry into Gujarat with the launch of its mobile shopping app and e-commerce offer in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.
Now customers of three cities can buy IKEA products using the app or order online via the brand website offering nearly 8,000 products, reports The Economic Times.
"We will offer the full range of IKEA products and solutions for every part of the home including bedrooms, kitchen & dining, living, outdoors, workspaces etc" said Kavitha Rao, IKEA India Country Commercial Manager.
After opening its first store in India in 2018 in Hyderabad followed by the one in Mumbai in 2020, IKEA plans to open its first shopping centre in India at Noida of Uttar Pradesh.
IKEA is going to invest nearly Rs 5,500 crore on this project to build a shopping, entertainment and business centre revolving around the flagship IKEA store.
The project includes construction of two multistoried buildings of almost 30 floors with separate blocks for retail, office and hospitality. The company plans to complete the entire project within seven years.
Meeting the local sourcing requirements and growing competition in the domestic furniture segment of India are the challenges that face IKEA.
Mukesh Ambani’s acquisition of online furniture seller Urban Ladder in November, 2020 through his Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd is bound to increase the competition in USD 40 billion furnishing market in India.
