‘Take The Lockdown Seriously’: Yogi Adityanath Appeals For Non-Complacent Approach To Fight Against Covid-19

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to the people of the state to take the lockdown to fight the threat of Covid-19 seriously. Taking to Twitter, he said in a post that people must stay inside homes in the wake of the lockdown, which has been placed in UP.

He added that people must protect themselves and their families. He also called for the following of directions, rules and regulations and law in the fight against the spread of Covid-19.

He asked for people to cooperate, to be alert and aware.

On Sunday, Adityanath had announced lockdown in 16 districts of the state. The number of cases in the state has been increasing. The lockdown, starting today, will be in place till 25 March.

The districts under lockdown are Lucknow, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Aligarh, Moradabad, Lakhimpur Kheiri, Bareilly, Azamgarh, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit and Saharanpur. "Services for supplies of food grains, milk, vegetables and medicine will remain open during the lockdown in these 15 districts," a report on the India Today said.

After the success of the Janata Curfew called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, Adityanath congratulated people of UP asked them to not be complacent.

In a post on Twitter, he said that this was not the time to celebrate, as the fight against the spread of Covid-19 is a long one. He said that it was time to stand together and win the fight.

He added: "मै प्रफुल्लित हूं कि हम सबने दिखा दिया कि हम किसी भी लड़ाई को लड़ने के लिये सक्षम हैं (I am happy to observe that we are capable of fighting any challenge)."

On Sunday, the number of positive cases of Covid-19 reached 28 in the state.

Imposing the lockdown, Adityanath said: "Unnecessary crowding should be avoided, and people should avoid gathering in public places. This is because as we are standing at a juncture, where even a slight laxity can prove to be harmful."
