A Terror Attack
Around 35 terrorist attacks that resulted in deaths of about 52 civilians took place in Pakistan in August this year, as per the data gathered by the South Asia Terrorism Portal. These are the highest recorded figures since February 2017.
A large part of this violence has been ascribed by the Tehreek-e-Pakistan, which is an offshoot of the Afghan militant group. These developments are also being seen in the larger backdrop of the Taliban taking control over Afghanistan in mid-August.
Apparently, several militants wanted by the Pakistani government were freed from the Afghan jails once the Taliban assumed power of the country.
This even includes the $25 billion worth power plants and road projects part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
In fact, China is already pushing Pakistan to offer protection to these projects following a bus explosion that killed 12 workers including nine Chinese citizens in July, Business Standard reports.
The report also details about the death of nine Pakistani soldiers amidst clashes with their Afghan counterparts in the last couple of months.
