Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMIA), has added another feather to its cap by creating yet another record. The Mumbai airport has handled a record 1,007 aircraft movements in a single day.
The record surpassed the previous one made on Saturday (8 December). The previous record established in June this year stood at 1,003 flight movements in 24 hours. The record was achieved in the wake of the highly anticipated wedding of Isha Ambani, daughter of prominent industrialist Mukesh Ambani, set to take place in the lake city of Udaipur in Rajasthan, The Financial Express has reported.
The celebrations which began on Friday (7 December) was attended by a host of Bollywood celebrities, top politicians and corporate giants. A spokesperson for the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) revealed that the airport handled a record 1007 departures and arrivals without divulging further details related to the factors that lead to the surge in air traffic.
The main runway and the secondary runway at the Mumbai airport, which is the central hub of prominent airlines such as Jet Airways when combined can handle 83 flight movements. The Mumbai airport led by the GVK consortium in the fiscal year ending 31 March 2018, handled 48.49 million passengers while registering a 7.4 per cent growth rate in the financial year 2017.
Mumbai airport along with New York, Dubai, London and Delhi are examples of some of the world’s busiest airports.
