Three Indian-Origin Students Make It To Time Magazine’s List Of 25 Most Influential Teens Of 2018 

Time Magazine, which produces an annual list of most influential people around the world across various fields has included three Indian-origin students in its list of 25 most influential teens of 2018.

British-Indian Amika George, Indian-Americans Kavya Kopparapu and Rishabh Jain have found their place in the list this year. An algorithm created by Rishabh, who studies in eighth grade, suggests a possible cure for pancreatic cancer. Kavya, a student at Harvard University, has developed a deep-learning computer system that studies and scans the slides of tissues from patients with brain cancer. It scans for difference that can be found in the texture, cellular alignment, density etc.

Amika is focused on ending “period poverty” and aims to fund the distribution of menstrual products to those who cannot afford them. Times of India quoted Amika as saying, “The government knew this was happening on their watch, but they were refusing to find a solution.”

A campaign named #FreePeriods gained tremendous response and collected over 2,00,000 petitions that calls for eradication of period poverty. Over twelve UK-based policy-makers expressed support to the campaign, calling for the government to have an allocation made in the funds.
