TRAI Effect: Reliance Jio GigaFiber And GigaTV May Be Rolled Into One, Giving Users A ‘Total Solutions’ Experience

BySwarajya Staff

The telecom-DTH industry is all set to experience another bout of disruption. At its forty-first Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) last year, Reliance Industries headed by Mukesh Ambani had announced the launch of Reliance Jio GigaFiber and GigaTV.

Now, that is in the process of becoming a reality as Reliance looks to eliminate the distance between Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) technology and Direct-To-Home television, reports TelecomTalkinfo. It now proposes to combine the two verticals and beam them directly to the users’ screens, thereby giving tough competition to standalone DTH and FTTH providers, says the report.

The new tarriff regime is also believed to have come as a shot in the arm for Reliance, in its efforts to combine the two technologies to offer users a ‘whole’ experience.

With this muscular combination, subscribers will be able to enjoy high-speed internet right from their TV screens, according to the report. GigaFiber will boast of speeds like 1Gbps, which permit viewers to stream even 360-degree videos in 4K resolution.

Calling feature

The report says that with this technological integration, users will also get the option of making calls right from their TV screens. These calls will be routed from the TV only, and users will have the comfort of connecting with loved ones from right in front. Also, billing is likely to be integrated, making the whole experience a ‘total solutions’ proposition.
