President of the United States, Donald Trump, is likely to sign an executive order this week, effectively limiting the access of Syria refugees and immigrants from other Muslim countries to the United States. According to Reuters, the order will focus on immigrants and refugees from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Orders on immigration are expected today (25 January), ABC News said in its report, adding that specific orders on Muslim refugees are expected later this week.

During the presidential campaign, Trump had promised to tighten US immigration policies, leading to a complete ban on Muslim immigrants from entering the country and the construction of a wall along the country’s border with neighbouring Mexico.

According to the Associated Press, Trump will also start signing orders this week to prepare for a wall on the US-Mexico border. On Tuesday night, President Trump took to Twitter to reaffirm his position on this issue.

"When I am elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats," Trump said in a June 2016 speech.
