Two Unions Withdraw From Farmer Protests, Demand Action Against Those Involved In Violence

A day after the violence caused by the farmer rally in which over 100 police personnel were injured as well public property was damaged, two farmer unions withdrew from the ongoing agitation against the three farm laws, reports LiveMint.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (27 January), Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) president Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh said that his union is ending its protest at the Chilla border as they were deeply pained by whatever happened during the tractor parade in the national capital.

Similarly, VM Singh of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan said that it is withdrawing from the ongoing agitation.

The farmer alleged that Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait had not raised the issue of farmers from Uttar Pradesh in meetings with the government and also demanded strict action against all those who indulged in untoward incidents on Republic day eve in the capital.

Regarding Tuesday’s (26 January) violence, the Delhi Police has registered around 22 FIRs in various districts under sections of rioting, damage to public property and assault on public servants with deadly weapons.

Police have now begun investigation to analyze the video footage available to identify the violent protesters who damaged public property and attacked the Delhi Police personnel. A total of 86 policemen were injured in the violence.
