Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom, Nadine Dorries, has tested positive for Coronavirus, reports Hindustan Times.
In a statement released on Tuesday (10 March), Dorris said, “I can confirm I have tested positive for coronavirus...and have been self-isolating at home”.
She also tweeted saying that she is worried for her 84-year-old mother who stays with her. She will be tested for Coronavirus tomorrow.
Health officials are now trying to trace where she contracted the virus and who has been in contact with. So far there have been six fatalities in Britain from the virus, with more than 370 confirmed cases.
Reports have claimed that Dorries has been in touch with hundreds of people including the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She reportedly met Johnson recently at an event in 10 Downing Street.
The news of a senior politician and cabinet minister who has contracted this virus could increase calls to suspend parliament, which the Johnson government is reluctant to do so in the middle of a health crisis.
