UP: Anti-CAA Protesters Turn Violent In Various Cities, Burn A Roadways Bus In Sambhal District

Violence erupted during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on Thursday (19 November) afternoon in various cities of Uttar Pradesh.

A roadways bus was set on fire by protestors in Sambhal district.

In Lucknow, even as the police focused on protests by Samajwadi Party workers, people came out on large numbers in old city areas like Khadra and pelted stones at the police.

District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash has rushed to the affected areas. Tension prevailed in the other old city areas too.

Police carried out a baton charge at the Parivartan Chowk in the state capital to disperse the protesters.

Section 144 was enforced in all of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday (17 December) night ahead of the scheduled protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Thursday.

State DGP OP Singh had appealed to the parents not to allow their children to participate in any demonstration or march or else they will face action, reports The Hindu.

Internet services were also suspended in Azamgarh district on Wednesday for 48 hours after protests on two consecutive days against the CAA.
