UPSC Civil Services Topper Turned Politician Shah Faesal’s Security Cover Withdrawn To Conserve State Resources

BySwarajya Staff

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has withdrawn the security cover extended to former IAS topper turned politician Shah Faesal, India Today has reported.

This decision to withdraw security was finalised on Tuesday (20 March). Apart from Faesal, the security cover has been withdrawn for People's Democratic Party (PAP) youth president Waheed Rehman Para, former MLA Eng Rasheed and all the separatist politicians in the state.

Faesal recently launched a political party which he claims has been inspired by Pakistan Prime Minster Imran Khan. One of the core members of the party is reported to be Kashmiri activist Shehla Rashid.

Soon after the Pulwama terror attack a decision was taken to withdraw the security cover of 18 separatists who advocate for the secession of Kashmir from India and 155 other political persons.

A committee headed by state chief secretary B V R Subrahmanyam asserted that providing security cover to these public figures was a "wastage" of scarce state resources which could utilised for more productive activities.

This decision has resulted in the freeing up of over 1,000 police personnel and 100 government vehicles which can be redeployed in the state.
