Details covering the ownership status and any pending litigation of 6,348 Delhi properties have been put up on the e-Dharti online portal which was launched by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on 7 March, reports The Hindu.
The portal covers properties under the Land and Development Office (L&DO); information of the total number of 65,000 properties under the department is aimed to be uploaded on the site by March 2020.
Online applications can be submitted on the site for leasehold conversions to freeholds, substituting the names of legal heirs, among changes in other details.
Since the Geographic Information System has already mapped all 65,000 properties, people can also find out online if the vacant plots have been encroached by anyone.
Thus, the portal serves the dual purpose of making the process of submitting applications for modifying details easier through the internet, as well as creating transparency about ownership and possession.
