United States President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, just weeks after he played an important role in brokering peace between Israel and United Arab Emirates.

Norwegian Parliament member Christian Tybring-Gjedde has submitted a nomination letter, recommending Trump's Name for the prestigious award, to the Nobel Committee, reports Fox News.

In the nomination letter, Tybring-Gjedde said the Trump administration has played a key role in the establishment of relations between Israel and the UAE.

He said the Israel-UAE peace deal could prove to be a gamechanger that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.

Asserting that Trump has played key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties, Tybring-Gjedde said that the US President has created new dynamics in other protracted conflicts including the North and South Korean conflict.

He also lauded Trump for withdrawing large number of troops from Middle-East.

It should be noted that this is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize. Following Trump's Singapore Summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un in 2018, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize by Tybring-Gjedde along with another Norwegian official.

In an interview with Fox News, Tybring-Gjedde said, “For his merit, I think he [Trump] has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,”

The Norwegian MP also criticised 2009 Nobel Peace Prize award to former US president Barack Obama.

"The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump. For example, Barack Obama did nothing," Tybring-Gjedde said.

The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to then-President Barack Obama for what the Nobel Committee called his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

It should be noted that the Nobel Peace Prize recipient is determined by a five-person Nobel Committee, which is appointed by the Norwegian Parliament.
