In a positive development, Uttarakhand Government's Industrial Department is set to set up export promotion hubs across the State's all 13 districts which would work to promote local products and give them a bigger market, both domestically and internationally, reports Hindustan Times.

The initiative of the Chief Minister (CM) Trivendra Singh led Government intends to push each such export hub in the 13 districts to sell some specific products from each district where their production i is more.

This comes merely about a month after CM Singh had announced on the State's foundation day that the State would soon have its export policy in place. He had then also announced that the State would promote and market its products, including agricultural produce, under the umbrella brand of "Holy Himalayas" with the intent of giving the consumers a feeling of Himalaya's purity.

Similarly, Almora would supply pickles, Chamoli would supply fish, Haridwar would supply sugarcane products, Nainital would supply Aipan handicrafts, Pauri Garhwal would supply wooden handicrafts, Pithoragarh would supply carpets and Rudraprayag would supply honey. Meanwhile, the remaining districts of Tehri Garhwal and US Nagar would supply honey and bakery products respectively.

It should be noted that the policy push gains significance as Uttarakhand presently contributes only about 0.48 per cent to the total exports out of the nation.
