‘Virat Kohli Has Instilled A Fighting Spirit, Indian Team Can’t Be Bullied’: Former England Skipper Nasser Hussain

BySwarajya Staff

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has lauded Virat Kohli for infusing a fighting attitude in the Indian cricket team, PTI reports. Hussain believes that this quality ensures that the men in blue do not get bullied by on-field or off-field adversities anymore.

The 52-year-old heaped praise on the Ravi Shastri-coached side’s ability to bounce back from the humiliating defeat in Adelaide to claim a consecutive series victory in Australia recently.

The visitors were marred with multiple injury concerns and even lacked Kohli’s services due to his paternity leave. However, the team managed to retain the coveted Border-Gavaskar trophy powered by the performances from young newbies like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Siraj amongst others.

“Any side that can go to Australia, go 1-0 down after being bowled out for 36, lose Kohli because he's going home on paternity leave, lose your bowling attack and still come back and win after some of the stuff that went on off the field in Australia, they won't be bullied,” Hussain was quoted by Sky Sports.

Hussain, however, insisted that England will be heading into the four-match series vs India with their heads held high after a 2-0 clean sweep victory away from home in Srilanka. Yet, he continues to remain wary of the threat that the Kohli-led side poses, especially in familiar conditions.

“They (India) are a tough side. I think Kohli has instilled that. Make no mistake, at home, they are a formidable outfit,” Hussain stated. The first game of the upcoming India-England series will take place from 5-9 February at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
