Watch: India Tests Extended Range Version Of Pinaka Rocket

BySwarajya Staff

India today test-fired the extended-range version of indigenously developed Pinaka rocket at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Odisha’s Chandipur.

While the Pinaka Mark-I rockets have a range of 37.5 km, the new extended-range version can hit targets 45 km away.

A Pinaka MBRL system has 12 rocket tubes mounted on a Tatra vehicle. In salvo mode, rockets can be fired from these tubes less than four seconds apart.

Six Pinaka launchers, called a battery, can fire 72 rockets in 44 seconds.

These rockets can be guided to their target in enemy territory. This has significantly improved India’s precision standoff rocket strikes capability.

Developed by the DRDO’s Armament Research & Development Establishment, the Pinaka is built by two private companies — Larsen & Toubro Defence and Tata Power Strategic Engineering Division.
