Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, in a scathing attack on Congress president Rahul Gandhi, said today in the Lok Sabha that when Rahul Gandhi was young, he was playing in the lap of a certain ‘Q’.
Jaitley’s allusion was to Ottavio Quattrochi, the Italian businessman who was one of the accused in the Bofors scandal. Readers may note that Quattrochi and his wife were regarded as friends of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi years before the Bofors scandal broke.
Jaitley made these remarks when speaking on behalf of the government during the debate on the Rafale deal in the Lok Sabha. Leading the government’s charge, Jaitley rejected the Congress’ demand of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to look into the deal.
Jaitley also borrowed references from popular British series Yes Minister while stressing on the necessity of commissioning Rafale. He said that, “in BBC serial Yes Minister, it is said the most incapable ruler is one who never takes a decision. That is how the previous government was”.
The Parliamentary proceeding were momentary reduced to a farce when Congress MPs by their own admission flew paper planes in the lower house during the Rafale debate.
