After alleging that the BJP state governments were removing Assamese and Biharis from West Bengal and Gujarat respectively, Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee said that the doors of West Bengal will always be open for all expelled people.
Banerjee in a statement said that, “Reports of people committing suicide because their names were missing from NRC list are unfortunate. We love the people from Assam and Bengal. We never discriminate as we are neighbours. I am saddened. The name of one person is not in NRC but the names of his wife and children are in the list. This drove him to commit suicide” as reported by TNIE.
In a move to speed up the land allotment process, Mamata Banerjee asked the Coochbehar administration to expedite the process for the dwellers of the enclave that was exchanged three years ago with Bangladesh in the land exchange agreement.
Responding to the allegations, Sayantan Basu, state BJP general secretary said, “ She should focus on the law and order situation of her own state before meddling with affairs of other states. In West Bengal, TMC cadres are killing not only members of other political parties but also their own party men”.
It was reported last yeat that Bengal’s Finance Minister Amit Mitra projected the state’s dept to rise to Rs 3.66 lakh crore in 2017-18. The report also claimed that at this rate the TMC government would surpass the erstwhile Left government’s accumulated debt by 2018-19.
