‘Why Is He Eating With Us’: How Spinner Danish Kaneria Faced Discrimination In Pakistani Team For Being A Hindu

Pakistan’s former ace pacer Sohaib Akhtar has revealed details of how spinner Danish Kaneria faced discrimination from his fellow teammates for being a Hindu.

Kaneria who too is now retired, is only the second Hindu to have played in the Pakistani cricket team. Anil Dalpat was the first.

As per reports, Akhtar while speaking on a Pakistani TV channel revealed how Kaneria was ill-treated on multiple occasions and was robbed of credit for victories, all for being a Hindu.

Akhtar revealed that he had major fights with other members of the Pakistani cricket team over them sowing regional and religious level discord in the group.

He added that team-members used to be angered over Kaneria taking food from the same serving bowls as them and was never credited for helping Pakistan win the test series against England.

Akhtar claimed that despite Kaneria being instrumental in Pakistani victories he was never accorded due laurels purportedly for being a Hindu.

The report also adds that after ECB banned Kaneria for spot-fixing, the Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) never accorded him the same support as it did to its Muslim players to help and win the appeals. These incidents have also led Kaneria to acknowledge that he has faced discrimination over his religion.
