With Likely Global Internet Shutdown, Users May Face Failed Transactions, Network Errors During The Next 48 Hours

BySwarajya Staff

A global internet shutdown is likely in next 48 hours according to a statement issued by Communication Regulatory Authority (CRA), ANI has reported. Maintenance of key servers around the world is being stated as the reason for the shutdown. The maintenance work will be done by International Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Russia Today has reported that users may face network connection issues during the maintenance period. ICANN will carry out the maintenance work by changing the Domain Network System (DNS), or the cryptographic key that protects the internet’s address book.

“To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if network operators or internet service providers have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions”, CRA said in its statement. It added that the shutdown was necessary for ensuring a safe, stable and resilient DNS.

The exercise however, has been deemed necessary due to the rising threat of cyber-attacks around the world.
