Yogi Adityanath Government Sends Eviction Notice To Six Former CMs; Asked To Vacate Government Bungalows In 15 Days

Following a Supreme Court (SC) verdict, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has sent eviction notices to six former chief ministers (CMs) of the state, Business Standard has reported.

The six former CMs who continue to occupy the government residences include SP leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, BSP supremo Mayawati, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh and N D Tiwary.

The UP government under Akhilesh Yadav had passed a law granting permanent government residence to former heads of the state. The law, however, was quashed by the apex court this month observing that after their term ends, the CMs are at par with the common man.

The notice, sent by the state’s Estate Department, requires the leaders to vacate the bungalows within the next 15 days. The bungalows are allocated to the former CMs at nominal rates of 2 to 4 thousand per month as reported by ABP News.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has been occupying his government-allotted bungalow for more than 20 years, and Akhilesh Yadav has been allotted a bungalow next to the him. Mulayam’s bungalow is reportedly larger than current CM Yogi Adityanath’s residence.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh too hasn’t vacated his residence in Lucknow till now, even as he has been allocated another bungalow in New Delhi. He uses the residence whenever he visits Lucknow.
