Online food delivery and restaurant discovery service provider Zomato has introduced a 26-week parental leave for all employees, Money Control reports. The policy would benefit non-birthing parents in cases like surrogacy, adoption and same-sex partners.
It should be noted that Indian laws mandate a 26-week maternity leave but don't provide any such rule for paternity leave in the country. No other company in India is close to having a similar parental leave policy for both men and women.
The new policy was announced by the founder of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal in a blog post. He said that the company believes that people produce their best work when their personal and professional goals are meaningfully intersected and aligned.
Further, Zomato would provide $1,000 per child as an endowment to the new parents as welcoming a new member to the family can be financially straining for a young family.
