ZyCov-D
The central government’s biotechnology department’s secretary Dr Renu Swarup has affirmed that it will take around four weeks’ time to begin administering the ZyCoV-D vaccine to children aged between 12-18 years.
She further added that the National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (NTAGI) will guide this new vaccine’s scaling up in the entire immunisation program depending upon the volume of the doses of the same that will be available.
She added, “It will be taken by the entire NTAGI Working Group on COVID because they will have to decide, considering how much volume is going to be available. Knowing this, that this is a new technology, a new platform, it does take time for the scale-up of this vaccine.”
Dr Swarup assured that Bharat Biotech has already gotten the permission for the trial of a Covid-19 vaccine for children aged five years and above. Likewise, providing an update on vaccines for those aged below 18, she mentioned that Biological E has received the approval to carry out the third phase trials of its vaccine for children.
