'Bringing Politics Into Education Is Detrimental': Bommai Lashes Out At Congress For Scrapping NEP In Karnataka

Addressing a gathering at Mangaluru, organised by the People's Forum for Karnataka Education, former chief minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai, hit out at the Congress for politicising the National Education Policy (NEP).

He stated that the Congress government's decision to scrap the NEP will result in jeopardising the future of thousands of students in Karnataka.

He accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of being 'out of touch' about students' future and mentioned that many ministers have grown-up children.

Taking a jibe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bommai said that the chief minister consults the Centre or the Prime Minister on almost every matter, which includes writing to the prime minister or sending delegations to meet him. But on the matter of the NEP, he has not thought twice of considering such a measure.

Apart from the alleged 'north Indian' influence on the education system, Bommai has sought the reasons behind the NEP being scrapped. He dismissed the Congress' claim as a purely political move.

"Bringing politics into education is detrimental to a country, and it ultimately hinders the development of a young mind," Bommai has been quoted as saying by the Times of India.
