National Commission for Women (NCW) President Rekha Sharma on Thursday said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers tried to barge into the NCW office building and create ruckus.

The women panel had summoned AAP Gujarat chief Gopal Italia in connection with a video where he was seen using abusive and misogynistic language targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During his questioning, the NCW Chief tweeted a photograph saying that the AAP workers have begun causing disorder outside her office. She wrote, “All the @AamAadmiPartyhulligons are outside my office creating a ruckus. @CPDelhi @SouthwestDcp @PMOIndia."

In the meantime, Italia tweeted alleging that the NCW has threatened him that he would be put in jail and alleged that the BJP is against the Patidar community. He claimed that he is a descendent of Sardar Patel and does not fear going to jail.

NCW Chairperson told reporters after the hearing that Italia had claimed that he was not the person in the video in a verbal statement. However, in his written response, he said he did not mean it.

While Italia's hearing was going on, AAP supporters protesting outside tried to enter the NCW building and police had to be called to restrain them, a NCW official said. According to the official, Italia was detained after the hearing for ''creating a situation that disrupted law and order in the area''.

Kejriwal alleged that Italia's detention has caused resentment among the Patidar community in Gujarat.
