Yellow smoke in parliament released by intruders
Following a significant security violation in Parliament, where two individuals infiltrated the Lok Sabha and discharged smoke canisters, House Speaker Om Birla stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway and instructions have also been issued to the Delhi Police.
According to Indian Express, Birla further noted that initial investigations indicate the smoke emitted from the canisters was "harmless" and "not a cause for concern".
Birla announced that he would share the findings of the ultimate inquiry with the House, emphasising that the concerns raised are shared by the House as well.
He confirmed the arrest of both intruders, along with the confiscation of all their possessions, and noted that two additional individuals outside were also apprehended.
While acknowledging the difference in the nature of the two attacks, he questioned the security measures in place, considering the attack happened on such a significant date. He commended the MPs for catching the intruders but questioned the absence of security personnel during the incident.
Sudip Bandhopadhyay of TMC emphasised the need for increased caution, stating, "Hundreds of people gather at the entrance gate when the MPs arrive. These individuals remain from 11 am to 6 pm, snapping photographs. It's impossible to distinguish between who is an MP and who is not."
Acknowledging the apprehensions of the MPs, Birla responded, "I comprehend your worries. We will soon convene a meeting to deliberate on them. Your recommendations on enhancing the arrangements in the House will be taken into account. We will also discuss the necessary precautions to consider while issuing visitor passes. Regardless of the situation, our duty is to ensure the smooth functioning of the House."
