According to insider information reported by India Today, the military is preparing to deploy additional forces to the Poonch-Rajouri sector of Jammu and Kashmir in response to terrorist activities.
The aim is to fortify the anti-terrorist network in the region by augmenting the number of troops, the sources further divulged. The fatal terrorist assault on two military vehicles in Poonch on 21 December, resulting in the death of four soldiers, precedes this.
The Army is currently investigating the demise of three civilians that occurred a day following the Poonch terrorist attack. In response to allegations of custodial torture from the families of the deceased, the Army is implementing disciplinary measures against certain officers and reassigning others, in light of the civilian fatalities in the area.
In addition to initiating an investigation into the deaths of three civilians, the Army has also commenced an inquiry involving an officer at the Brigadier level, according to sources. The probe will further scrutinise the repeated terrorist assaults on Army personnel within the jurisdiction of the said officer.
