Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded a contract to Alstom worth Rs. 1,854 crore to design, manufacture and supply 234 metro cars for Mumbai Metro line 4 and the extension corridor along Wadala-Kasarvadavali-Gaimukh.
The metro line is a 35.3 km long elevated corridor with 32 stations, which will inter connect Eastern Express Roadway, Mono Rail, the ongoing Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar and Mandale) and the proposed Metro Line 5 between Thane and Kalyan, Metro Line 6 between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli. Metro lines 4 and 4A are expected to reduce the commute time by 50 to 75 per cent.

Alstom has previously delivered trains for other metro projects in Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Kochi, and Line 3 of Mumbai Metro as well. It has six industrial sites across India — in Bihar (Madhepura), Andhra Pradesh (SriCity), Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore), Gujarat (Savli and Maneja) and West Bengal (Kolkata), employing 8,000 people.
The new products have been added to the company’s portfolio as part of Bombardier Transportation’s acquisition earlier this year in 29 January 2021.
