Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that the interim bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was not a “routine judgment,” suggesting that many believe Kejriwal received “special treatment.”
When asked if Kejriwal's election campaign rhetoric had intensified following his release from jail, Shah told ANI, “Right now he [Kejriwal] is stuck in another issue,” referring to the controversy surrounding the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal. “Let him get free from that, then let's see what happens.”
Shah also criticised Kejriwal's repeated claims that he would avoid jail if people voted for the Aam Aadmi Party in the Lok Sabha elections, calling it a contempt of court.
“In my opinion, it is clearly a contempt of court. He is suggesting that the Supreme Court doesn’t jail those who win in elections. Whichever judge granted him the bail, he needs to think about how his judgment is being misused,” Shah remarked.
“Anyone can contest from anywhere, but Rahul Gandhi should have informed the public beforehand that he would contest from two seats. From a democratic point of view, it is not right to hide it. He should have told the people of Wayanad about it and then asked them to make their choice,” Shah said.
Shah claimed that Gandhi chose to contest from Rae Bareli after sensing a threat of losing the Wayanad seat based on post-poll surveys.
Countering the opposition's claim of ‘Dakshin mein BJP saaf aur Uttar mein half,’ Shah asserted that the BJP would emerge as the largest party in South India.
“I stand by my statement. Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu - combining the seats in these five states, BJP will emerge as the single largest party,” Shah declared.
