News Brief
Dr Mohan Yadav
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a Yadav Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow on Sunday (3 March) with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav as the chief guest.
Targeting Akhilesh Yadav's family, Mohan Yadav said, "Yadav politics and vote bank is occupied by a single family but what they do for Yadavs?," and requested people to come out of this family.
Without naming, Mohan Yadav indicated that, unlike Akhilesh Yadav, his father was not a Chief Minister, but still BJP gave him opportunities to serve in various positions.
He also highlighted contributions of Lord Krishna, who was a Yaduvanshi. He invited everyone to visit Lord Krishna's education centre near Ujjain and pledged to turn it into a pilgrimage centre.
Mohan Yadav's address comes after Yadav Mahasabha has already been divided after a faction went against Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav.
While Akhilesh Yadav is busy expanding his vote base through PDA (Backwards, Dalits, Tribals and Minorities), the BJP has been eyeing Yadav vote bank, which lately is drifting away from the SP.
Yadav population is around 8-9 per cent in Uttar Pradesh and influence elections on 50 Vidhan Sabha seats. They are one-fifth of the total Other Backward Classes (OBC) population.
