West Bengal's Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers are being targeted by the goons affiliated with the Mamata banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the Lok Sabha results.

Drawing a similarity with the violence after the 2021 State Assembly elections, Adhikari said, "It has now become the culture of West Bengal, that the TMC Party goons will attack the BJP Karyakartas after the declaration of results."

"In a repeat of the incidents which had transpired after the declaration of the 2021 Assembly Election results, which caused deaths of several BJP karyakartas, similarly now, after the announcement of the Parliamentary General Elections results, BJP workers are being targeted by the goons affiliated to the ruling dispensation in the State," he added.

In the letter to Governor, he listed out 15 incidents from Cooch Behar, North 24 Parganas, Diamond Harbour, Mednipur, Jaynagar, Barasat, Bishnupur, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin and Jhargram Constituencies where BJP workers were attacked.

Notably, the Home Ministry had anticipated a post-poll violence and around 400 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) comprising over 40,000 security personnel are already deployed in the state until 19 June.

However, Adhikari alleged that "such forces are not being utilised to control the deteriorating situation." He also added that "10,000 people are homeless already owing to such State-sponsored reign of terror" and living in safe houses arranged by the BJP.
