Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale announced on Tuesday (13 March) that the state government has given its initial approval to rename eight suburban railway stations in Mumbai, as per a report by The Indian Express.
The stations, currently bearing colonial names, are set to be renamed as follows: Curry Road to Lalbaug, Sandhurst Road to Dongri, Marine Lines to Mumbadevi, Charni Road to Girgaon, Cotton Green to Kalachowki, Dockyard to Mazgaon, King’s Circle to Tirthankar Parswanath, and Mumbai Central to Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth.
He added that the proposal would be forwarded to the Union government after receiving approval from the state cabinet during its meeting on Wednesday.
This move follows previous station renaming efforts in Mumbai, notably including the renaming of Victoria Terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Oshiwara station to Ram Mandir, and Elphinstone Road to Prabhadevi.
