In a campaign rally held in the Pathariya constituency of Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati expressed her skepticism towards the Congress party's recent push for a caste-based census.

She urged voters not to be swayed by political promises made during elections, only to be forgotten afterward.

As reported by NDTV, Mayawati pointed out that historically, the Dalits, tribals, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) have faced significant disparities in India since the country's inception.

She also highlighted that despite being in power, the Congress had failed to take action on the recommendations of the Mandal Commission report, which called for OBC reservations.

She suggested that the Congress's sudden interest in a caste census might be politically motivated, given the upcoming assembly elections on 17 November.

The BSP leader also criticized the Congress for not making efforts to bestow Bharat Ratna upon Dr. B R Ambedkar, a prominent figure in the Dalit community.

Mayawati emphasized that this reflected the Congress's true intentions.

It's worth noting that the BSP has forged an alliance with the Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections.
