As of 4 October, India had won a total of 81 medals at the Asian Games, 18 golds, 31 silver, and 32 bronze. With these, India stands fourth in the medals tally behind China, Japan and Republic of Korea.

On 4 October, the golds from India came from the javelin throw (Neeraj Chopra), 4X400 mens relay, and the archery mixed team event.

With 18 golds so far, India has surpassed its highest ever gold tally at the Asian games. In the previous edition in 2018 in Jakarta, it had won 16 golds.

In terms of total medals, India's previous best was 70 at the 2018 games. That record has already been bettered.

The prospect of India reaching the 100-medal mark now stands just 19 medals away.

Where will the 19 medals comes from?

India is sure to get at least seven more medals from compound archery, squash, bridge, kabaddi and hockey.

That leaves another 12 medals to get.


For the rest, India has strong contenders in badminton, chess, and wrestling.

Overall, observers say that India is looking at the prospect of winning 22 more medals. That means the best-case scenario for India from here is finishing with a medal tally of 103 medals.

India on Day 11 of Asian Games 2023

On the 11th day of the ongoing Asian Games, India secured a gold medal in the compound archery mixed team final. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravis Ojas Deotale delivered sterling performances, surpassing India's previous best medal tally.

India's prowess extended to other disciplines as well. A bronze medal was claimed in the 35km race walk mixed team final, while Lovlina Borgohain earned a silver in the women's 75 kg boxing final.

Parveen Hooda secured a bronze medal after a tough bout in the 57kg women's boxing semifinal.

In men's Greco-Roman 87Kg wrestling, Sunil Kumar clinched a bronze by defeating Kyrgyzstan's Atabek Azisbekov with a score of 2-1.

The prospect of India securing 100 medals at the Asian Games is not just exciting, it's tantalizingly within reach.
