In response to Mamata Banerjee's recent announcement of Trinamool Congress going solo in the 2024 elections, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has emphasised the significance of Mamata Banerjee in the INDI bloc.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Jairam Ramesh said, "You have not read her full statement. Her full statement is she wants to defeat the BJP and for that, she won't take a step back. With this though, we (Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra) are entering West Bengal. When we are on a long journey, speed breaker comes, red light comes."

He highlighted that Rahul Gandhi was asked the same question and he said that Mamata Banerjee is a key leader of the INDI bloc.

"Mamata ji is also a tall leader of the country. We cannot imagine INDI bloc without Mamata Banerjee", he added.

Addressing Mamata's allegation of not being informed about Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Jairam Ramesh said that Mallikarjun Kharge had invited all INDI party leaders in several speeches.

He also mentioned about the talks on seat-sharing that are going on in West Bengal and emphasised some middle ground will be reached, adding that INDI alliance will contest election from West Bengal as one bloc.

Meanwhile, responding to Banerjee's decision, BJP's Amit Malviya said, "Unable to hold her political ground, she wants to fight all seats, in the hope that she can still be relevant, after the polls."
