Annamalai has questioned the DMK on the Mekedatu project

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai today (18 July) criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Chief Minister MK Stalin for not opposing the Mekedatu project or bringing up the issue of Cauvery water shortage during his visit to Karnataka for the meeting of opposition parties.

The party conducted press meets in 66 constituencies across the state regarding the issue.

In a Twitter thread, Annamalai said that the DMK government was ignoring the interest of the farmers of Tamil Nadu due to its selfish interest, i.e., an alliance with the Congress. He said that Chief Minister Stalin and leaders of parties allied to the DMK are enjoying a feast given by the Congress government in Karnataka, which is ignoring the plight of Tamil Nadu farmers by not releasing enough water.

Further, he said that the suffering created for farmers of the state by the Congress government is similar to what former chief minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi had caused by not renewing the Cauvery Agreement and pushing the state into a legal struggle for over 40 years.

Earlier, Annamalai had stated that BJP workers would protest with black flags and chant 'Go Back Stalin' on his return to the state if he does not take up the issue strongly.

Before leaving for Bangalore, Chief Minister Stalin said that the DMK would not change the stance taken by Karunanidhi and the meeting is not about Cauvery water or the Mekedatu project but about saving India from the BJP.
