News Brief
JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna.
Karnataka lawmaker Prajwal Revanna was arrested at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport just after midnight upon his return from Germany.
Revanna, a Janata Dal-Secular leader, faces allegations of sex crimes by women who claimed he forced them into sexual acts that were filmed.
He arrived on Lufthansa flight LH0764 and was taken into custody by a special police team investigating the charges.
Revanna had previously cancelled two flights back to India.
His request for anticipatory bail was rejected by a special court in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Police have also conducted a search of his home in Hassan, where they reportedly seized "incriminating material."
He promised to appear before the police team on 31 May and cooperate fully.
This message followed warnings from his grandfather, JDS patriarch HD Deve Gowda, and his uncle, ex-chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, urging him to return to India and surrender.
Revanna, the outgoing Hassan Lok Sabha MP, was re-nominated for the 2024 election by JDS, who is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
The BJP had already distanced itself from Revanna and the investigation.
