News Brief
Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi Assembly
Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP Head, Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the Central government to place photos of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi on the currency notes. He was conducting a press conference on 26 October 2022 in New Delhi.
Kejriwal said that Lord Ganesh is considered to remove all obstacles, while Goddess Laxmi represents wealth. "If Indonesia could do it, then India can also do it", he said as he made his case for the change in Indian currency.
Recently, the AAP had been in focus for its anti-Hindu remarks by its leaders.
One of Kejriwal's ex-Cabinet Minister, Rajendra Pal Gautam, was seen taking path in z mass conversion event, where an oath denouncing Hindu gods and goddesses was administered, in his presence.
Following outrage, he had to resign from his post, though he remained defiant for his actions. The party, however did not suspend the leader.
He called those attending the ritual as eunuchs (hijra) and even went to the extent of alleging that the women are exploited in these religious gatherings. He also abused PM Modi and his 100 year old mother.
These remarks did not sit well with people in the state.
Italia was defended for his remarks by his party and continues to head the AAP in Gujarat.
CM Kejriwal, battling various corruption charges against his government's top ministers, seems to be in a damage control mode. He himself was heavily criticised for making making a mockery of exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the Delhi assembly earlier this year.
Kejriwal's recent statement invoking Hindu Gods and Goddess seems to have come with Gujarat elections in sight, probably as a move to save face.
