Suranya Aiyar
Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's daughter Suranya Aiyar faces notice of the resident’s welfare association (RWA) of Delhi’s Jangpura Extension over her remarks on Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya.
In a social media statement, she said, "First and foremost as an expression of love and sorrow to my Muslim fellow citizens of India... and I condemn and repudiate what is being done in the name of Hinduism and nationalism in Ayodhya."
Highlighting its responsibility of maintaining cordial relations between all residents, the RWA said in its notice, "We do not appreciate a resident's rant which may disturb the peace in the colony or hurt religious sentiments."
Pointing out that the "Freedom of Speech cannot be absolute," the RWA asked Aiyar to "not provoke anyone by creating hatred and mistrust among people", especially in a locality where people came from Pakistan losing all their wealth.
The notice also asked Mani Shankar Aiyar to condemn his daughter's act. It suggested Suranya Aiyar challenge the verdict in court if she is unhappy and "move out to another colony where people and RWA can turn a blind eye to such hatred."
Mani Shankar Aiyar has three daughters, two of whom faced troubles this month. Earlier, Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) license of Yamini Aiyar-headed Centre for Policy Research (CPR) was cancelled.
