Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has offered advice to the newly elected Mizoram counterpart, urging him to refrain from commenting on internal matters, particularly the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur.
As per reports by Indian Express, Singh responded to Mizoram CM Lalduhoma's comment on the Moreh border issue, stating, “Whatever happened in Manipur is our internal matter. I have seen one comment from the newly elected CM of Mizoram that the state police should not harass his people in Moreh. It is an internal matter of the Manipur government. He does not know what is happening in Moreh.”
The state of Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence since 3 May 2023, involving clashes between the majority Meitei and minority Kuki groups over issues such as land, public jobs, and influence.
CM Biren Singh appealed to his Mizoram counterpart to assist in restoring peace without regard to caste and community divisions.
He emphasised the importance of refraining from interference in the internal affairs of each other's states, drawing parallels with his own restraint during the Bru issue in Mizoram.
“A lot of communities including Kuki, Naga, Meitei, and Meitei-Pangal have been living in Moreh. My earnest appeal to him is, please help us in restoring peace irrespective of caste and community. I never commented when the Bru issue happened in Mizoram, so please pray and help us restore normalcy in Manipur…” said Biren Singh.
