One Soldier Killed, Four Including Officer Injured In Encounter With Terrorists At LoC In J&K

An Indian Army soldier was killed and four others, including an officer, were seriously inured in a gunfight with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday (27 July).

The clash erupted when security forces detected terrorist movement near the Kumkhadi post in the Machil sector. 

A Pakistani terrorist was eliminated in the gunfight while four Indian soldiers, including an officer, were also injured.

According to the reports, the attack was carried out by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), which include commandos from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, and are known for infiltration along the LoC.

Five Army soldiers including a Major rank officer suffered injuries in the encounter. All five troops were evacuated from the location.


"There has been (an) exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector on the line of control. One Pakistani person has been killed while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated. Operations are in progress," the Indian Army said in an initial statement.

Earlier on July 24, the security forces also neutralised an unidentified terrorist in an overnight gunfight with terrorists in Kupwara's Lolab area. A soldier was also killed in the gunfight.

According to intelligence agencies, the Jammu region has a presence of 50 to 60 hardcore foreign terrorists, including former Pakistan army regulars from the Special Service Group, in the hill districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur.

Meanwhile, the Army has deployed more than 4,000 soldiers, including 500 elite para commandos and those trained in mountain warfare to eliminate these terrorists.
