A Hindu youth was reportedly killed by a mob in Bangladesh over alleged blasphemy.
The youth, Utsab Mandal, was killed in Khulna around midnight
According to local reports, Mandal was a student of Azam Khan Government Commerce College in Khulna.
He allegedly "taunted" Prophet Muhammad on a Facebook post.
In the evening, students took him to Khulna Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner (South) Tajul Islam's office and demanded exemplary punishment to him.
To avoid any untoward incident, a team of Army and Navy reached the spot and took control of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Tajul Islam told reporters that the protestors were assured by the law and order forces about the case against the detained Utsab Mandal and bringing him under the jurisdiction of the court.
Even then the situation did not calm down. He was later killed by an angry mob.
This comes as the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh has been under attack by violent protesters after fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
Hasina resigned and fled to India on 5 August after unprecedented anti-government student-led protests over a controversial quota system in government jobs.
Data from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad indicates that since the fall of the Hasina government, minority communities have suffered at least 205 incidents of attacks across 52 districts in Bangladesh.
