Hyderabad No More Common Capital Of Telangana And Andhra Pradesh, Uncertainty Looms Over Schedule IX And X Buildings

From today (2 June) onwards, Hyderabad will no longer continue to serve as the common capital of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as per a report by The Hindu.

Although now Hyderabad will become solely capital of Telangana alone, many of its buildings in key locations are under Andhra Pradesh's ownership which it has agreed to vacate except those properties that house Schedule IX and X institutions.

Schedule IX and X institutions include offices of Film Development Corporation, Civil Supplies Corporation, Dairy Development Cooperative Federation and Vaidya Vidhan Parishad among others.

Some officials have stated that now it is imperative for the Telangana government to decide whether it will allow the neighbouring state to have control over these buildings or it will explore its options to take them over.

This request is expected to have come for discussion in the recent state cabinet meeting and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is yet to take a call on it.

Over 55 buildings in the twin cities are set to be now up for grabs for the Telangana state government to house its key departments which are currently functioning from rented properties.

However, Telangana will also have to bear the brunt of huge financial expenditure in the coming days on repairing these buildings, so that they can be put to new use again.
