Illicit Drug Trade Not Just India's Problem But A Global Menace: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (25 August) said the illegal narcotics trade is not just India's problem but also a global menace, stressing that the country can fight the battle against drugs if it pursues with determination and strategy.
Addressing a meeting at a hotel in Chhattisgarh's Nava Raipur on the scenario of narcotics substances in Chhattisgarh, Shah emphasised the need to adopt four formulas of 'drug detection, network destruction, culprit detention and addict rehabilitation' in achieving success.
Shah said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s resolve of a drug-free India by 2047, the centenary year of India's independence, is today becoming the resolve of every citizen of the country.
He said that the resolution of a drug-free India is significant for building a prosperous, safe and glorious India.
Shah underlined that the battle against drugs in India has to be fought with intensity, seriousness and a comprehensive strategy.
He added that illicit trafficking of narcotics in India severely impairs national security.
The money earned from illicit drug trade promotes terrorism and left-wing extremism and weakens the country's economy, Shah said.
He said that drugs not only ruin the country's young generation but also weaken the country's national security.
He also expressed concerned over the use of narcotic substances in Chhattisgarh. He said that the percentage of sedative use in Chhattisgarh is 1.45 which is more than the national average.
Shah emphasised on the use of scientific methods in the investigation of drug-trafficking cases.
The Home Minister stressed on the need to work with a ‘Top to Bottom and Bottom to Top’ approach and dismantle the entire network in a ruthless manner.
He said that unless the entire network is attacked, the goal of a drug-free India cannot be achieved.
Shad said that the country can be successful in this fight only by following the four principles of detection of drugs, destruction of the network, detention of the culprit and rehabilitation of the addict.
He added that India will achieve complete success only by adopting a Whole of Government approach in the fight against drugs.
